Top tips for spot and acne scars
If you suffer or have suffered with acne-prone skin, then blemish, spot or acne scars are an equally upsetting part of this skin condition.
While unfortunately some very deep-set scars can be difficult to reduce, we have some top tips to help protect your skin and help to reduce the appearance of scarring:
1. SPF
Wearing it all day, every day (as anyone should), can help to limit the contrast between scarred and unscarred skin. UV light worsens the appearance of scars, so it's important to always apply sun protection.
Choose a non-comedogenic SPF - like our Everyday Hero - that won’t clog your pores and is gentle on your sensitive skin.
2. Gentle exfoliation
While scars will never really go away, gentle exfoliation can help to lightly reduce them. Our Microfine Wonder Scrub and Spot On Paste contain salicylic acid which can help to do this.
3. Hydration and moisturisation
Drink plenty of water and apply moisturiser - this will improve skin elasticity, encouraging its ability to heal.
4. Avoid picking
We know this is something that can become a habit or hard to stop thinking about, but trust us, this will only worsen the scarring.
5. Be patient
Skin regeneration takes time (a full skin cycle takes around 28 days). Give your skin time to heal or fade scars, as it has to regenerate after getting over the blemish and then scarring. The best way is to treat the area with consistency and patience.
