With thousands of skincare products out there, we know it can be hard to tell which are best to use, and how many products should really be in your skincare routine.
Our hottest tip is: less is more! When you feel like your skin is too dry, in breakout mode or just generally out of balance, it’s time to keep it clean and simple. To take it back to basics - you only really need 3 steps.
If you’re in need of skincare routine tips, we’ve rounded up our top five, with some of our most-asked teen questions:
Tip 1: Keep your skin as clean as possible
Question: “How often should I cleanse my skin?”
As a starting point, you should cleanse every morning and night. With one exception: if you have extremely dry skin, avoid cleansing in the morning – just rinse your face with lukewarm water to avoid over-stripping the skin. We recommend double cleansing at night to remove any makeup and impurities.
If you’re doing sport regularly, make sure you cleanse after every class or practice, to clear your skin of any sweat, dirt and anything else that could lead to breakouts and blemishes.
Tip 2: SPF is for every. single. day.
Question: “How often should I apply SPF?”
All day, every day! To maintain the healthiest skin possible, it’s important to protect it from the UV rays that are present all the time, even on rainy days. If you’re doing extreme sports like skiing or surfing, it’s important to reapply to maintain that SPF skin shield.
Tip 3: Moisturiser is your best friend
Question: “When do I apply moisturiser?”
In terms of within your routine, a moisturiser should always be applied to fresh, clean skin, after cleanser but before SPF. To maintain balance within your skin and support your skin barrier, you should apply it AM and PM, every day. If you’re experiencing dry skin, try layering our Hydrate & Nourish Tonic Milk on top of your moisturiser.
Tip 4: Mask weekly, not daily
Question: “When do I use a face mask?”
A face mask is a great weekly treat for skin that needs an extra boost. If you can’t seem to shake the blemishes, your skin will love our Clear Skin Fix Mask. If it needs an extra splash of hydration, try our Moisture Fix Mask.
Within your PM routine, apply a face mask to freshly cleansed skin, leave on for 15 mins then wash it off. Then apply your moisturiser (and maybe Tonic Milk) as normal.
Tip 5: Flannels are cleansing’s best-kept secret
Question: “Should I use a flannel to wash my face?”
We love a flannel and face wash combo. Once you’ve lathered up your cleanser of choice (Universal or Clarifying), dampen the flannel with warm – not hot – water and wipe away the suds.
Flannels are great for a thorough cleanse, as they can help to more effectively remove makeup and any leftover residue of the cleanser itself, especially anything oil based.
