When it comes to beauty and skincare, there’s a LOT of information out there.  

With new brands popping up daily and social media becoming the ultimate hub for research (which, of course, isn’t always the best idea…), we know it can become a little overwhelming.  

Today, the UK beauty market is estimated at around £11.3billion, forecasted to grow by another billion in the next four years.*  

One of the biggest booms has been in teen beauty. Driven by social media (on TikTok alone #GenerationAlpha has around 30million views, to date) the global teen market is expected to grow by around £7billion by 2026.**

So, it’s important that you know where to find accurate and reliable information. The FACTS.

Our top tips ...   

  • Approach those beauty hauls and skincare routines on TikTok with caution. Remember, 20 or 30-something skin is very different to teenage skin. AKA, it can handle different ingredients.  
  • Always ask yourself a few questions: are they an expert, or another fan? Can they explain what the ingredients are, and what they do for your skin?  
  • Remember that social media is often filtered (even when it doesn’t look like it!) 
  • Take your research beyond your phone and look at the ingredients. Ask questions of experts and in-store staff, or even the brands themselves. Speak to parents or generations older than you. 
  • If you’re seriously concerned by a skin dilemma, book an appointment with a dermatologist. 
  • Beauty is and should be fun – take the content you see and use it for inspiration. You’re wonderful just as you are! 
  • There’s nothing wrong with wanting to take care of your skin. Just make sure that what you’re using is safe and suitable for you.
