Should I… buy preloved makeup online?

Learn

In 2024, there’s a growing trend on social media, resell sites and apps for selling used makeup.

Preloved, second hand, used. Whatever you call it, we’re here to let you know that buying these products isn’t a good idea if you want to keep your skin happy and healthy.

Why? Because used makeup = contamination.

It’s far from hygienic, and skin hygiene is so important. Especially in teen skin. There’s no easy way to sanitise or clean a preloved product, so you can’t ever rule out contamination.

It might seem like a cheaper way to buy the latest brands and products, but what you’ll find is you’ll need to spend more money buying products to rectify the problems caused by contaminated makeup.

What problems can you expect? Breakouts, inflammation, and in extreme cases, infections. Who knows where that preloved makeup has truly come from?

There’s also a chance that the product being sold might be fake, since it’s not being sold from a reputable retailer or the brand itself.

To reduce waste, try to find the right shade or tone for you by sampling a product in store first, before you buy a fresh, new product online.

So, should you buy preloved makeup online? Our answer: don’t do it!
