What are skincare acids?

Skincare

Acids are hardworking skincare ingredients that you’ll find in many product formulas. Used correctly and at the right age, they can be helpful for exfoliation and extra hydration.

The acid you choose to use in your skincare depends entirely on your skin type and concerns.

For teen skin, there are a few acids that are safe to use and to look out for.

Acids that are safe for teen skin:
  • Lactic Acid – our first post-biotic in all indu formulas that can also be useful for gentle exfoliation.
  • Hyaluronic Acid – encourages deep hydration, so is perfect for keeping your skin feeling moisturised, especially when it’s feeling dry.
  • Salicylic Acid – when used in small amounts, this exfoliating acid is safe for teens at a low percentage, especially for oily or blemish-prone skin.
Acids to avoid for teen skin:
  • Glycolic Acid – for more mature skin, this has good anti-ageing properties, but since you don’t have any lines or wrinkles, it’s not suitable for your skin.
  • Retinoic Acid – this is a form of retinol, which teens should 100% avoid. This encourages cell turnover, which is already functioning at its most efficient in teen skin.
